This project teaches children about everyday life and families today, including comparisons with childhood in the 1950s, using artefacts and a range of different sources. In the Childhood project, your child will learn words and phrases related to the passage of time. They will explore artefacts to help them to understand childhood in the past and how childhood has changed over time. They will explore the six stages of life and explore timelines and family trees. Everyday life in the 1950s will be explored, including shopping, transport, family life and childhood.

Geography

This project teaches children about the physical and human characteristics of the United Kingdom, including a detailed exploration of the characteristics and features of the capital city, London. They will learn about the countries that make up the United Kingdom, including their location and capital cities. They will have the opportunity to do map work, using compasses and positional and directional language to plan routes around London. They will research the cause and impact of the Great Fire of London and look at some famous London landmarks.

Dinosaur Planet

History

This half term, we’ll visit a museum, look closely at ancient fossils and study reptiles to understand how dinosaurs may have lived and eventually died out. We’ll learn about the great fossil hunter, Mary Anning, and follow in her footsteps, studying dinosaur teeth and bones to find out what dinosaurs liked to eat. Learning dinosaur names, creating puzzling riddles, writing fantastic fact files and creating exciting dinosaur stories are some of the other activities we’ll be involved in this half term.

Amazing Algorithms

 

This half term, we will explore the world of computing by learning what algorithms are and how they are used on digital devices. Children will understand that programs follow clear, precise instructions and will use logical reasoning to predict what simple programs will do. They will use technology purposefully to create, organise, store and retrieve digital content, while also learning about the different ways information technology is used beyond school.
