Featherby in the Community
Our school is an active member of our local community and the wider community. Let us share with you some examples of Featherby working as part of the community:
Featherby Food Bank
We know how important it is to support our families in these difficult times and so we started a food bank for our families, supported by our families and the local community.
Featherby Uniform Bank
We always want to support our families and to ensure that their child always has the appropriate uniform - as affordability should never be a barrier to a child feeling exactly the same as their peers. Our Family Liaison Officer is able to support families with uniform and also to signpost to a variety of organisations and charities.
Medway Food Bank
Our staff are also trained to make referrals to the Medway Food Bank, for additional support to help our families in times of crisis.
We are always looking to partnerships with other organisations who can help us support our families with care packages when they need it most.
Medway Adult Education - because aspirations are high for all at Featherby
For the second year running, we have hosted a year-long training programme working in partnership with Medway Adult Education team to offer parents looking to retrain as a Teaching Assistant the training, placements and support to qualify.
Additionally, we have offered parents employability skills training and are also planning other opportunities that parents/carers would find beneficial, including ESOL classes.
Hatchlings programme - early members of the Featherby Family
We realise there are parents of very young children who can feel isolated and want to build new friendship groups with other parents. Our Family Liaison Officer and Community Ambassador, who both bring a wealth of expertise in Early Years and Maternity Services, run fortnightly Stay & Play sessions for parents with toddlers, to enjoy play together and foster friendships within the wider community.
Clothes Bank
Recycling and looking after the planet for the future generations is a key focus for us at Featherby and part of that includes the opportunity for parents to drop clothes and shoes off to a dedicated bank on site - thereby ensuring they don't go to landfill and facilitating recycling of those raw materials.
