Nursery Overview

Autumn: Term 1

THEME: All about me (for new intake)

In this unit the children are going to be finding out all about themselves, their new friends in the class and all of the exciting things they can do now that they are at Nursery.

THEME: Sand and Water (for all)

In this unit the children are going to be learning all about sand and water. They will be: Finding out about where water comes from - Thinking about what to wear in the rain - Learning about creatures that live in water - Playing with sand and water. Autumn: Term 2

THEME: Food

In this unit the children are going to be learning all about food. They will be: Setting up a café in the classroom - Cooking all kinds of food and watching how it changes - Making pictures of food - Using food to print with - Finding out where food comes from - Growing some food.

Spring: Term 3

THEME: All About me (for new intake – as above)

THEME: House and Homes (for all)

In this unit the children are going to be learning about all kinds of houses and homes. They will be: Going and looking at the houses near the school - Listening to stories - Finding out about animal homes - Learning about special homes - Making houses in the construction area - Baking a house of sweets. Spring: Term 4

THEME: Superheroes

In this unit the children are going to be learning about what qualities a Superhero has. They will be: Reading stories about Superheroes - Making a Superero costume – Finding out about people who help us – Finding out about the Science of superpowers.

Summer: Term 5

THEME: All About me (for new intake – as above)

Changes (for all)

In this unit the children are going to be learning about all kinds of changes. They will be: Making ice-cubes, jelly and chocolate shapes - Learning about young animals changing into adults - Changing words and make new rhymes - Playing in the sand and water tray and seeing how many ways they can change the sand and water -Making new shapes - Making loud and soft music. Summer: Term 6

THEME: PatternsIn this unit the children are going to be learning about patterns and asking which patterns they can remember. They will be - Going on a pattern walk - Making and matching patterns - Finding out about patterns in nature - Reading stories about a patterned elephant called Elmer - Looking at words with patterns - Clapping and dancing to musical patterns.
